DESCRIPTION:<p>Please Join Porter Square Books and PEN/New England for <b>Marilene Phipps-Kettlewell</b> at Upstairs on the Square.</p>
 <p>Painter\, poet\, and short story writer <b>Marilène Phipps-Kettlewell</b> was born and grew up in Haiti. Her collection The Company of Heaven\: Stories from Haiti won the 2010 Iowa Short Fiction Award. She has held fellowships at the Guggenheim Foundation\, the Bunting Institute\, the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research\, and the Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard University. She is a winner of the Grolier prize for poetry\, and her collection <i>Crossroads and Unholy Water</i> won the Crab Orchard Poetry Prize. Her work has been published in <i>Callaloo</i>\, the <i>Crab Orchard Review</i>\, the N<i>ew Arcadia Review\, Ploughshares</i> and <i>The Best American Short Stories</i>. </p>
