“[Russian
Winter is] an elegant, compelling puzzle of family, memory, and
solitude that brings to life modern-day Boston and postwar Russia
through a profound love story. Graceful, moving, and unexpected.” Matthew Pearl, author of The Dante Club
“A
charming and poignant book, Ballet to the Corps is more than the story
of a young woman’s career as a professional dancer. It’s a fascinating
snapshot of the early days of the Joffrey Ballet and the energy of New
York City in the fifties and sixties.” Leigh Witchel, Dance Writer for the New York Post
Daphne
Kalotay is the author of Calamity and Other Stories, which was
short-listed for the 2005 Story Prize, A former fellow of the
Christopher Isherwood Foundation, Yaddo, and the MacDowell Colony, she
lives in the Boston area.
Marie
Paquet-Nesson’s thirteen-year professional ballet career began with a
