"In Mrs. Somebody Somebody,
Tracy Winn uses her substantial powers of language and observation to
explore the ties that bind and the secrets that separate. Like the
Merrimack River that flows through them, these wonderful stories run
deep." Elizabeth Graver, author of Awake
"Cold Snap marks
the premiere of a bold and talented writer. Phoel writes with great
authority and examines the lives of her characters fearlessly, without
sentimentality or sensationalism. The writing is pitch perfect; the
stories are powerful and heartbreaking. There won’t be many books
published this year of the same quality." Robert Boswell, author of The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards
Tracy Winn earned her MFA from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers and has had stories published in New Orleans Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Hayden's Ferry Review, and Western Humanities Review,
among other venues. She works with Gaining Ground, a local nonprofit
farm that gives its produce to local shelters and meal programs. She
lives near Boston with her husband and daughter.
Cynthia
Phoel served as a Peace Corps volunteer in a Bulgarian town not unlike
the one in her stories. She holds degrees from Cornell and the Warren
Wilson MFA Program for Writers. Her work has appeared in the Missouri Review, Gettysburg Review, and Harvard Review. She lives near Boston with her husband and children.
