Nook (including the Tablet and Color), Sony Reader, Kobo and other dedicated eReaders

1. Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. The first  time you open Adobe Digital Editions you will need to create an Adobe Digital Editions ID. If you skip this step you will not be able to transfer books from your computer to your device.

2. Login to Porter Square Books and choose “Download the epub” to download the ebook to your computer.

3. Open the ebook in Adobe Digital Editions. You can either just double-click on the ebook or open Adobe Digital Editions, and choose File, then Import Files. The book should now be on your “shelf.”

4. Plug in your device.  It should appear as an icon in the lower left corner.

5. Drag the ebook from the shelf onto the icon for your device and the ebook is now on your device.

With the Nook Color and Nook Tablet you can also read our ebooks in the device's browser. So if you don't feel like transferring files back and forth or want to start reading but aren't near your computer, follow the instructions above on your device's browser but choose "Read Now" instead of "Download the ePub." You'll probably have to adjust the font size to match the screen, but you'll be able to start reading right away.  (Of course, you'll need an internet connection.)

Kindle Fire

In order to read our eBooks on the Kindle Fire you need to sideload the IndieBound Reader app for Android onto it. Here are instructions on how to do it. Once that’s done, just follow the instructions for the Android app above.

Your Computer

You can also read ebooks just on your computer. If you don’t want to download the books choose “Read Now” and you’ll be able to read the ebooks through your browser. You can also read them using Adobe Digital Editions or other ereading software when you choose “Download the epub.” On some ebooks, you can even download them as a .PDF. PDFs aren’t as flexible as epub but they are more faithful to the look of the print book, which can be nice for cookbooks, travel guides, and other books with complicated formats or a lot of illustrations.
