Maybe it's learning about an event in history that (In America at least) is not well known, maybe it's being told from the perspective of a man determined to make his mark on history or die trying, but Millard has released a history book that goes toe to toe with the best thrillers out there.

With access to many key figures and documents as well as members of the Kennedy family, Larry Tye has brilliantly captured the complex personality of one of the most charismatic public figures of the 1960’s. Tye explores the seeming contradictions in Kennedy’s life, a man who first came to Washington as an ardent anti-communist staffer for McCarthy and who became a generation’s best hope for creating a more just, more compassionate, more peaceful world.

1941: Fighting the Shadow War

It's always fascinating to see an in-depth and somewhat alternative view of a history we think we know about. 1941 saw a sharply divided American public arguing about whether to get into the war or not, with Teddy Roosevelt Jr. and the rabidly anti-Semitic Charles Lindbergh leading the isolationist camp and Roosevelt trying to help Churchill and Europe while not breaking promises he had been forced to make in the 1940 presidential campaign. Deeply researched and engagingly written.  Wortman will be at PSB on May 10.
