Eliot is pretty sure his uncle’s house in Canada is the worst place to spend the summer, especially since he isn’t much of a swimmer. Early mornings on a fishing boat, gathering maggots for bait, a local bully....it’s not idyllic. But there’s more to Point Aconi than Eliot imagined, and slowly, the place begins to work it’s magic on him. So plunge into this book and prepare yourself for a story that will leave you emotionally pummeled yet refreshed- just like a good day in the sea.

Finley is spending the summer with her grandparents -- who she's never met thanks to some big family secret -- while her parents decide whether they're getting divorced. But she convinces her cousins to join her in the Everwood, her imaginary world, in the woods behind their house. Fabulous writing drives this darker but happier version of Bridge to Terebithia.

Raymie Nightingale

Wonderful characters, great story, I was completely charmed by this book. It’s the summer of 1975; three girls meet for the first time at baton-twirling lessons given by one time State Champion Ida Nee. All have plans to enter the Little Miss Central Florida Tire competition, all for very different reasons. Is two time Newbery winner Kate DiCamillo on her way to a third? I think so.

And they want to get AJ in on the action. Zany, hilarious, and so dang fun.

Kammie is trying to navigate the social hierarchy of her new school after her old life fell apart. When she finds herself stuck in a well after an outing gone wrong, she has to reexamine the circumstances and choices that landed her there. River’s novel weaves together a number of important issues in an original story with some surprisingly quirky twists. It’s a story that starts out simple, but grows in complexity and emotional depth, until readers find themselves falling down the well of Kammie’s emotions. The only way out is to keep reading!
