We have not seen the story of Psyche and Eros retold enough, but the world of Dark Olympus was the perfect setting for it. The characters were complex and wonderful and I loved them and hated them in turn. This book is in turns sexy and heartwarming, and leaves the reader wanting more (seriously, I would like book three immediately).

WARNING: First book in a series AND quite profane. That being said, this book was everything I was looking for when I picked it up. It's a great adventure story with a propulsive plot and great world-building. The narrator is just the sort or thieving rapscallion you want as your tour-guide through the taverns and high seas of this world of goblins, giants, war, and plagues. Beyond that, the ending left me gob-smacked and hungry for the second book. What more could you ask for?

Follow along on the adventures of ST the domesticated crow as he navigates the apocalypse with his trusty friend Dennis the dog in their “murder of two.” As an animal who had one foot in the house, and one in the wild, it is up to ST to help usher all the domesticated animals into the new world being born before his very beak. Equal parts profound and profane, this mash up of The Secret Lives of Pets and The Walking Dead had me laughing and wincing on the same page, which I dug.

Whether you’ve read The Hazel Wood or not, these dark fairytales torn straight from its pages will haunt you long after you put it down. From girls made of ice who carve their way through the world to clockwork treasures that revolt against their master, these tales are just as dark and bloody as the original Brother’s Grimm, but rather than find morality tales, here there are only tales of power and survival. The perfect read for the long winter nights.

Julie Morstad's Time is a Flower is a picture book that contemplates all the different things that time can be. The volume is beautifully illustrated. Written with a focus on an ease of understanding for younger children and yet poignant enough to be enjoyed by an older audience, this book is the perfect little story to wind down with after a long day.

Whether you're a stationery lover (me) or someone who can't draw for their life (also me), Ryder Carroll's The Bullet Journal Method takes you back to the basics of bullet journaling: the list-loving, messy yet entirely organized part of you that can't seem to scratch its itch for productivity. This book is the new-year-new-me guide for the planners and the pantsers, the people who sorta have their life together but also sorta don't. (And the best part? You don't need pretty pens or an expensive notebook to get started with bullet journaling.)

This reads more like a memoir in essays than a collection of cultural criticism. By delving into certain pieces of pop culture, King reveals the way “low culture” makes an indelible mark on us. From her introduction to Hot Topic as an antidote to the popular clique, to the bond she shares with her father over Jersey Shore, these “love letters” argue that just because something isn’t “good” doesn’t mean they aren’t perfect.

If this book isn't already considered a fantasy classic, it should be. I read the whole thing in less than 24 hours because I couldn't tear it away from me. Addison brings us an unique form of fantasy that manages to be both incredibly high stakes and comfortingly slice of life. I'm devastated it took me this long to read it.

In this story of power, privilege, and dark magic, a high school dropout and survivor of an unsolved homicide is handed a second chance by means of a full ride to Yale. This unconventional scholarship requires monitoring the activities of the secret societies in New Haven. But Yale's societies tamper with forbidden magic, raise the dead, and sometimes, they prey on the living. Written by an alumna of Yale and one of its societies, Ninth House is perfect for classics fans looking to transition into speculative or modern fiction.
