Julie Morstad's Time is a Flower is a picture book that contemplates all the different things that time can be. The volume is beautifully illustrated. Written with a focus on an ease of understanding for younger children and yet poignant enough to be enjoyed by an older audience, this book is the perfect little story to wind down with after a long day.

Whether you're a stationery lover (me) or someone who can't draw for their life (also me), Ryder Carroll's The Bullet Journal Method takes you back to the basics of bullet journaling: the list-loving, messy yet entirely organized part of you that can't seem to scratch its itch for productivity. This book is the new-year-new-me guide for the planners and the pantsers, the people who sorta have their life together but also sorta don't. (And the best part? You don't need pretty pens or an expensive notebook to get started with bullet journaling.)

Benjamin Alire Sáenz delivers in the highly anticipated sequel to Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Everything in this book is beautifully executed. My copy has probably 70-100 sticky tabs on it because it is just beautifully poignant. Though the target audience of this book is young adults, I still think everyone needs to read Ari and Dante's story at least once in their lives. There is such stunning commentary on identity and relationships (paternal, platonic, romantic) and the characters experience life so wholly and candidly that it's hard to look away. This is a must read for fans of contemporary YA!

Ocean Vuong's On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous grapples with quite a lot, including the consequences of trauma, racism, homophobia, classism, addiction, war, and more. And yet, its execution is nothing short of masterful. The story follows Little Dog, a Vietnamese American boy who writes this story as a letter to his illiterate mother. The story unfolds as Little Dog experiences life--the ups, the downs, and those areas between where hope shines its wavering light in the cracks between closed doors.

Filled to the brim with quirky characters, witty dialogue, and the most unexpected setting (Stanford!), The Love Hypothesis is a beauty of a story. If you're looking for a fast read that manages to toe the line between uber-serious commentary and lighthearted fun, this unlikely contemporary romance between a struggling PhD student and the notorious professor who fails just about everyone in his path is definitely for you! (And don't worry, the scientific lingo is hilarious and easy to follow along, even for people (like myself) who are not very... STEM-inclined, let's just say.)

Maybe you know Marie Lu from the Legend series. Or the Warcross duology. But I'm willing to bet that Skyhunter, Marie's newest young adult sci-fi duology, has flown under your radar. Set in a military base and the midst of several warring countries, Skyhunter is full of dark twists and turns and thoughtful commentary on race, sexuality, and the consequences of colonization. The stakes are ridiculously high, the suspense a veil of smoke. Skyhunter is a must-read for fans of dystopian.
