Polar Bear Explorer’s Club

A magical, wintery adventure filled with fairies dinosaurs, and mustachioed mayhem. Stella is out to prove girls can be explorers too, and maybe break some other misconceptions while she’s at it.

Abdurraqib catalogs musical history with a mythic, yet personal, reverence, sharing his heroes in a way that makes them accessible while canonizing them as larger-than-life icons. Whether you’re a longtime fan of A Tribe Called Quest or a total initiate, this book holds something fresh for you; this is what all culture writing should aspire to.

An Ember in the Ashes is one of my all time favorite books. From the first chapter to the last, you will be consumed by Sabaa Tahir's fantastic writing. Right from the start, you enter the Martial Empire and the story sets off, pulling you with it. Laia and Elias happen to be the main characters, but Helene will surprise you. And Helene is who I'm rooting for to win it all. Who will you root for?

This is the most fun I've had with a book in a while. There's a charming bookstore, bookstore owner, and the Illuminati (not really). And a little bit of booky/techy/nerdy romance. What more could you ask for?

I think the blurb smack dab on the front of the book, the one from Roxane Gay herself, sums it up best. Early in the book, Juliet writes a letter to her feminist writer icon, saying, “I know you’re not a Magic 8 ball. You’re just some lady who wrote a book. But I fall asleep with that book in my arms because words protect hearts and I’ve got this ache in my chest that won’t go away.” Juliet Takes A Breath is a book you can fall asleep holding.

You might think there are no princesses in your everyday life -- but that's only because you haven't learned the secrets of the mail carrier, the grocery cashier, and the retiree.

I wish I could live in the world Rebecca Kim Wells has built in SHATTER THE SKY. This book has it all: adventure; intrigue; a culture that accepts queerness without question; a protagonist who is clever, practical, determined, and impossible not to love. And, of course, DRAGONS!

Vamos! Let's Go To The Market checks all my boxes for what makes a perfect picture book. The artwork is beautiful and fun, there's so much to discover within every page (perfect for repeat readings!) and the conversational mix of English and Spanish makes for a wonderful learning experience. I wish I had had this book as a kid!

A thoroughly astonishing and enlightening life story, that will make you see the world with more open-mindedness and humor. The best non-fiction book I've ever purchased for my kids, thrilling stories and perspective. Best for ages 11 and up.

An inventive adventure full of wordplay, riddles, and strangely wonderful characters, this book is an utter delight! For readers of all ages who love The Phantom Tollbooth, Haroun and the Sea of Stories, and Alice in Wonderland.
