One Woman Show (Staff Pick)

A poignant and sly look at one woman's life, and how she turned herself into an object to be admired and protected. This novel is told through museum wall labels, and is one of the cleverest books I've ever read.

You know a retelling is really outstanding when you forget while reading it that it's not, in fact, the original. A Bit of Earth preserves all the good from The Secret Garden while modernizing the tale. I especially loved Maria Latif, a hurt and angry and lost little girl who learns to open herself up again.
Last year I spent October reading each essay in this book and then watching the corresponding movie, and let me tell you it made for one of the most magical (and spookiest) Octobers I've had in a while. This book had me nodding along as I read essays that echoed my own thoughts (such as Carmen Maria Machado's take on Jennifer's Body) as well as seeing some old favorites in a completely new way.
When Ava Reid writes a story it's like she's cut my heart out of my chest and handed it to me. A Study in Drowning absolutely drips with folklore and subtle worldbuilding until Llyr feels more real than our world. The characters are so heartbreakingly human, and watching them unravel the mystery of Myrddin's work moved me to tears. A dark academia book complete with myths and fairy bargains, you won't be able to put this one down.
This book is everything to me. Isabel Cañas has given me a book that has the romance absolutely dripping with chemistry, a lush and immersive world, a reminder that the real monster has and always will be colonialism, and ALSO has vampire fighting. I'm going to be yelling about this book for eternity.
Finch House is the perfect book for the middle school thrill seeker! While grappling with an upcoming move from the only place she's ever called home, Micah stumbles across a haunted house with a weird connection to her family. A book filled with shadows and creepy ghost children as well as love and forgiveness.
True crime, 1890s style. - James & Stacey
My dad once forgot Shrek's name and refered to him as "the green guy with the mushrooms on his neck." Anyway, he loved Shrek and so will you. ( -- Stacey)
A manga classic! Watch as bored college student Light Yagami gains the the power of light and death, crosses the line from vigilante justice to a reign of fear, and starts a cat and mouse game with the world's best detective!
The vampires are going to camp!! Join three of my favorite vampires as they go to magic camp, learn new things, make new friends, and fight old enemies. A funny and honest look at camp through the ends of vampires. Perfect for the precocious reader in your life.
