I remember holding back tears in the store when I first read this touching picture book, based on the author's own relationship with his grandfather. But don't worry, it won't make kids cry!! It's driven by vibrant, action-packed illustrations by Caldecott award winner Dan Santat. Flip it open, and you won't be able to put it down :)

Though Teodora di Sangro can transform her enemies into inanimate objects, she keeps her magical abilities a secret. But when the ruler of Vinalia poisons her father, Teodora must master her powers to protect her family and discover who she was always meant to be. This gorgeous queer fantasy draws upon strega lore to paint a breathtaking story of love, self-actualization, and transformation. One of the best books I read in 2020.

This is such a cute tale about a little girl who has a mustache, the bullying she faces for it, and how she overcomes it and begins to love her mooch (mustache in Hindi). It is so relatable. I wish I had this book growing up as I also was bulled for my mustache and facial hair. It's a beautiful story of self-love. And the illustrations are so cute!!
