When Langston Dances

Applause, applause for this beautiful picture book from a local author that reminds us to dance (and live our lives) like no one is watching - and proudly take a bow when they are!

When an anxious, would-be Bachelor-style reality star meets a hopeless romantic producer, well... the charm offensive works a charm!

I've loved every entry in Talia Hibbert's series about the Brown sisters, and this one is no exception. Prepare for British snarkiness, an imperfect but perfectly lovable cast, and multiple moments that will have you burst out loud with laughter. As with all books in the series, the inclusivity and genuine care Hibbert extends to her characters makes this the epitome of a feel-good romance. I definitely recommend the audiobook on Libro.fm as well!

This short novel-in-verse packs a serious punch of honest emotion - feelings that will be instantly recognized by anyone who’s felt like the sidekick in a friendship or grieved that growing apart is sometimes a piece of growing up. Definitely recommend the audiobook available on libro.fm or even just search YouTube for the author’s past performances - Mahogany L. Browne is a phenomenal reader.

Dawnie Walton’s debut novel is both timely and nostalgic, packed equally with wit and tension. Told in the form of snippets of interviews with main and side characters alike, Walton deftly uses skills gleaned from a career as a music journalist and LIFE magazine archivist to lift this story right off the page - by the end you’ll be shocked you can’t look up Opal’s old records.

First of all, always read prose written by a poet. The web of one family’s particular complexities is woven into the larger picture of the region’s, because so much of who we are is informed by where we’re from and where we can call home. At the heart of The Arsonist’s City is Beirut, the most fascinating place I’ve ever been, rendered with exquisite, vibrant nuance.

Because sometimes a classic recipe for enemies-to-lovers magic is just what you need. This is Lily Menon's first romance (you may know her also-great YA books under Sandhya Menon) but definitely not her last!

A beautifully wrenching story: when my hands were not frantically turning pages they were likely to be covering my mouth or my heart. It asks, where has mankind’s humanity gone? And yet it answers that it lives right beside the darkness, in pockets as small as a package of peanuts and as vast as a mother’s fortitude. Debut author Keisha Bush wrote this novel after years spent in Dakar, Senegal, but she grew up right here in Boston.

The way these characters and this family unfold around you is both exhilarating and tender. There's a feeling of both incredible momentum and a peaceful stillness that should be at odds with each other in one book, yet they dovetail together to celebrate the mingled beauty and terror of life and mortality, in particular one life: that of the unique and wonderful and tragic Vivek Oji.

This beautiful book is perfect for the young one in your life who loves animals! Sy's story is about following your dreams, and being open to learning the life lessons that teachers of all shapes and sizes can offer. Rebecca Green's illustrations are wonderfully rich and full of discovery. A gift for every good creature.
