Filled with fun facts about juvenile animals of all kinds! The drawings that accompany each fact are adorable and peppered with the author's poignant (and slightly painful) jokes. I had a tough time putting it down. Informational, cute, and great for cracking a smile and unleashing an "awwww" or two.

Why yes, this book is quite fabulous. It has a cute story for kids based on Snow White, except most of the characters are ponies. Bright colors, cute characters, and even some humor adults will appreciate - you can't go wrong.

A fun story about two smart girls in their space station home with their three-headed kitten named Princess, Sparkle, and Destroyer of Worlds. What's not to love? I really enjoyed the relationship treatment in the story, both with the girls' friendship, their familial relationships, and the relationships amongst coworkers on the station.

It's hard to summarize this collection of poetry. There's just so much raw emotion, and each author has their own distinct voice. The poems are all powerful declarations of resilience in the face of generations of societal bigotry and cruelty.

A darkly comedic middle-grade novel that will probably appeal to fans of "The Green Ribbon," both children and adults who enjoy children's fiction. I would probably not recommend for the easily queasy.

Some of the questions posed are very traditional for an advice column, but the responses are all earthy, poetic, and a little sinister. I can easily picture Baba Yaga's claws clacking away as she type up her response. I enjoy the raw, truthfulness of some of the answers, but just a reminder that Baba Yaga is not an actual therapist. (This book was featured on BitchReads' list of "11 Books to Hex the Patriarchy" last October.)

This is my favorite book right now. In Mirage, Somaiya Daud has crafted a beautiful fantasy (which seamlessly features some sci-fi concepts). The characters feel so alive. The setting and cultures, inspired by her Moroccan heritage, are intricate, beautiful, and refreshingly unique. The story is rich and engaging, but also succinct.

I love Kadir Nelson’s artwork. He’s done some of my favorite New Yorker covers lately, and this book is a shining example of his ability to tell a great story through imagery. The allegory presented is simple but beautiful, and it’s a good lesson leading into a new school year. I also feel like the book is timely for the peak of summer harvests.
