This Fall we are turning 15 years old! (So if it seems like we can’t get out of bed in the morning, you’ll know why.) A lot has changed at the store over the years, and even just in the five years since we last celebrated a milestone birthday. We have transitioned to employee ownership, started work on a second location, and added a romance section and digital audio books. We’ve started a number of new community-centered programs like Be the Change, Reader Prom, Writers in Residence, Grown Up Book Fairs, and literary salons. And two more of our booksellers have become published authors, Carter Hasegawa and Rebecca Kim Wells.
But there’s plenty that hasn’t changed either. We’re still doing our monthly staff picks, still packing our nights with events and readings, still talking with you all about great books, and still giving treats to the dogs who visit us.
At its heart, bookselling is a conversation. You tell us what you like to read, and we help you find what to read next. That conversation can happen directly, with one of us talking with one of you, indirectly, through the books you purchase, and, of course, on social media. That conversation can be just one chat, one purchase, or one tweet, or it can be ongoing, a relationship that lasts, well, fifteen years and counting.
To celebrate, we wanted to invite you to continue these conversations in the traditional way one marks such milestones: with birthday cards!
Bring in a handmade birthday card for us from October 4-October 11 and you’ll get 15% off your purchase that day. (One per person/family please. And we’ll be hanging the cards up in the store and sharing them on our social media.) Are you a friend who can’t stop in for a visit? You can mail us a card and we’ll email a 15% off coupon you can use on our website.
Thank you for all of your support. We can only get to be your local independent bookstore because you choose to shop with us.
