Be the Change: Parents Forum

In 1991 Eve Sullivan founded Parents Forum as a way to pay forward the help she received in raising her own children. The mother of three grown sons and grandmother of four, Eve sees the effort to develop positive ways of expressing feelings and managing both one’s internal and ones’ interpersonal conflicts as the core of good parenting and the key to a happy and successful life, whether or not one is raising children.

Eve received a bachelor’s degree in English from Bard College and taught English as a Second Language in Tunisia during the early Peace Corps era. After returning to the U.S. she received a master’s degree in teaching French from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. While raising her family, she worked as an editorial assistant at MIT. In 2012 she retired from the Institute and now devotes herself to advancing the cause of parenting education.

From 3-5PM 20% of all sales will be donated to The Parenting Journey.

Parenting Journey’s approach is based on the family systems principle – that people do not exist in isolation. They live in families (however defined) and gain important strengths from these relationships. Through recognizing and harnessing families’ strengths, our programs create changes that benefit all members, both individually and as a family. We believe that…

  • All parents want to be good parents.

  • The best way to raise hope is to start by identifying a parent’s strengths and building from there.

  • Any individual affects and is affected by other family members. We do not live in isolation.

  • Parents need an experience of feeling nurtured before they can nurture their children.

  • It is important to incorporate thinking as a step between feelings and actions to promote appropriate responses.

  • Effective learning comes first through feelings and then through thinking.

  • Effective parenting is influenced by one’s past, by the whole family, and by the cultural, social, and economic circumstances in which families live.

Parenting Journey offers powerful and effective programs that build on these beliefs to give parents the skills and confidence they need to create a strong family.
