Poetry Reading with Athar Pavis, Ann Bookman, and Sara Epstein

Porter Square Books is pleased to present a poetry reading featuring Athar Pavis, Anne Bookman, and Sara Epstein. The reading will take place on Tuesday, May 30 at 7pm at Porter Square Books (25 White St. Cambridge, MA 02140). Copies of all readers' latest collections- Pavis' Pulled Pork in Paris, Bookman's Blood Lines, and Epstein's Bar of Restwill be available for purchase at the event.

Athar C. Pavis is an American poet who grew up in Brooklyn. She studied Provençal poetry atMount Holyoke College and at the Institut d’Etudes Provençales in Paris. She later did researchon Proust, attended the Institut des Sciences Politiques in Paris, and taught at the Sorbonne andthe Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commonly known as the Quai d’Orsay. She has publishedpoems in Britain and Canada and in U.S. magazines, in Five Points, The Lyric, Slant, CharitonReview, Able Muse Review, The Alabama Literary Review, Trinacria, The Orchards Review,and The Comstock Review, among others. PULLED PORK IN PARIS, her first poetrycollection, is published by Kelsay Books, Inc. She is currently working on a hybrid novel basedon what happens when a team of language teachers comes up against French hierarchy at theQuai d’Orsay.

Ann Bookman is a poet, anthropologist and social justice advocate.  She has been studying poetry for twenty years with Boston area poets and in residential workshops at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA.   Her poems have been published in Valparaiso Poetry Review, Dogwood: A Journal of Poetry and Prose, Chronogram, Larcom Review, and Soul-Lit: A Journal of Spiritual Poetry, among others. In 2012 she published a chapbook, Point of Attachment, with Finishing Line Press. Her first full collection, Blood Lines, was published by Kelsay Books in 2022.

In addition to writing poetry and songs, Sara Epstein, PhD is a clinical psychologist who integrates mindfulness practices, including writing, in her psychotherapy work with children and adults.  She also facilitates and teaches generative writing groups and classes. Sara Epstein’s poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Poetry Quarterly, Amethyst Review, Chest Journal, Nixes Mate Review, Plainsongs, museum of americana, among others.  Her book reviews have been published in Mom Egg Review.  Bar of Rest, Sara Epstein’s first book of poetry, was published in 2023.
