Poets & Pints: March 14

Poets and Pints LogoJoin Porter Square Books at Aeronaut brewery for a celebration of local poetry.

The greater Somerville and Cambridge area is lucky to have such a vibrant poetry community. So, once a month we will gather at the community space at Aeronaut on the Duck Village stage, to celebrate that community with readings by three local poets.

The event will feature a social hour from 6-7 in which you can grab a beer and converse with the poets, hosts, and other poetry fans. The formal reading will be from 7-8 and will feature three local poets reading from their latest works.

The poets reading on March 14 are:

David Daniel is the author of Seven-Star Bird, which won the Levis Reading Prize. Poetry editor of Ploughshares for more than a decade, he founded and produces WAMFEST: The Words and Music Festival, which has brought together many of the most celebrated artists for unique collaborative performances: Bruce Springsteen with Robert Pinsky, Rosanne Cash with C. D. Wright, Talib Kweli with Quincy Troupe, and dozens of others. He’s been a member of the core faculty of the Bennington Writing Seminars and teaches at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Daniel lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Duy Doan is the author of We Play a Game, winner of the 2017 Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Slate, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. A Kundiman fellow, Doan received an MFA in poetry from Boston University.

Dona Luongo Stein, born in Boston, is a former Stegner Fellow in Poetry at Stanford University who studied at Tufts, Clark, and Harvard Universities and the Pacifica Graduate Institute with an M.A. in Medieval Literature and Philosophy from Clark University and MFA from Warren Wilson College. Stein received a Grolier Poetry Prize and was an International Artists Exchange Fellow in Germany which resulted in "Alice in Deutschland.” Residencies at YADDO, the MacDowell Colony, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts among others resulted in musical and visual art collaborations. Stein produced and hosted "The Poetry Show" at KRFC fm in Fort Collins, Colorado for ten years. "Leaving Greece" is her fifth poetry collection.
