This is the book I wrote for you

Instead of sniffing trees and posts and butts or eating litter

Too busy to chase the cat and chew

The leg of your new coffee table - so good

I wrote this book to show my love for you When you were out the house

I put my time to use and hope

My poetry and book sales will earn me Lots of bacon.

This nice paperback would make a great gift for anyone who loves Boston whether they were born and raised here or came later in life.  There is a wide range of viewpoints in these stories and although the book was created in response to the horrific events at the Boston Marathon in April, the pieces do not dwell on that and are truly a celebration of the many things that make Boston such a great city.  My favorite is the poem entitled Patriot's Day by Richard Wilbur.

Three years later Cassel begins to suspect there's more to his friend's death than he knows. To get to the truth, he must go up against his family and the secrets they're determined to keep.

The Treehouse books (13-, 26- and coming soon, 35-story installments) are Australia's answer to the Wimpy Kid.  Funny, a bit rude, full of lots of cool stuff and drawings, they are likely to appeal to elementary school age readers and maybe encourage a reluctant reader to engage.  After all, who wouldn't like to live in a treehouse?  And this one has a bowling alley, a shark tank, a library full of comics and swinging vines!

Mix yourself a martini and sit down with this collection of short stories written by one of America’s foremost authors, John O’Hara, who had more of his stories published in The New Yorker than any other in the history of the magazine.  Sophisticated, witty, always sharply written, these stories are filled with a wide range of characters – society swells, dames and bartenders, young marrieds and stockbrokers. Written in the years 1930 – 1965, The New York Stories give us a glimpse into a world long gone.

How and why did the farmers, hill people, city lawyers, wealthy plantation owners and other completely disparate peoples - some  of them extremely contrary - join the American revolution?  It's a complex, fascinating story, way beyond the handy school version, and Phillips has done a superb job of laying it all out.  A valuable addition to the ongoing historical record.
