Humor is probably the best way to deal with waking up five years after you've died. That's what Travis Coates does, in a brand new body, with the same old head, still sixteen when everyone he's every known and loved is five years older. Sadness of course plays in a bit too, but I'd be getting aHEAD of the story and giving too much away, and I can't do Whaley's storytelling justice anyways.

One of the most exciting new voices in comics, Emily Carroll’s unsettling fairy tales are atmospheric and lyrical, conveying a loneliness and vulnerability that connects the reader immediately with her unfortunate heroines. Carroll is a master of sowing subtle menace into the tone and settings of her stories, allowing her to achieve the most rare thing of all in horror comics—stories that are actually scary, and long before any monster appears on the page.

When seventeen-year-old Felicita's dearest friend kills herself to escape an arranged marriage, Felicita vows that her fate will be different. After faking her own death, she runs from her sheltered life as one of the city's magical elite into the slums, where she brushes elbows with serf and vampire alike. But all is not right in Pelimburg, and soon Felicita must decide whether her loyalties lie with the family she abandoned...or with those who would destroy Pelimburg's caste system, and the whole city along with it. A weird, beautiful book for fans of Doctor Who's "The Vampires of Venice."

Liz Emerson is not meant to be a likable person. Her actions are painful, devastating, and selfish in as many ways as you can imagine. And yet, the story of her self-destruction, as told by an intimate and omniscient narrator, is highly engrossing and emotional. Made possible by the spectrum of feelings of those who surround her, the reader is inspired to care about what happens to Liz in this unforgettable young adult novel.

Mike Klingenberg’s summer is off to a bad start. His father is on a “business trip” with his assistant. His mother is in rehab. The girl he likes has invited everyone but him to her party. So when Tschick—the class reject and possible son of a Russian mobster—pulls up in a stolen car and asks if he wants to go on a road trip, what else can he do? He hops in. A terrifically fun and moving story of love, friendship and growing up.
