This modern day story of suspense reads like a fairy tale. Jeremy Johnson Johnson (his real name) lives in the town of Never Better and helps to run the Two-Book Bookstore, where there are only two titles for sale. The ghost of Joseph Grimm, one half of the Brothers Grimm, is his closest companion and protector. Meanwhile the nefarious Finder of Occasions watches and waits.

Bickle's
vampires are the stuff of nightmares--enthralling, deadly, and
downright terrifying. Luckily, her unbreakable heroine Katie is more
than a match for them. Thrilling and action-packed, The Hallowed Ones is
perfect for readers seeking an antidote to the fluffy vampires of
Twilight fame.Rebecca

This adaptation of the adult bestseller is so well done that even adults will want to revisit the story about the work of Paul Farmer in Haiti and elsewhere. Tracy Kidder’s introduction to this younger version is pitch perfect, and the book settles on the essential story, only leaving out bits of some background info. Amazingly well done!

Originally published individually as three books, this middle reader gem is a brilliant introduction for the young reader into Pratchett's subversive, clever and humorous fantasy.   Set in a department store and featuring a clan of nomes, it is part adventure, part satire and part parable and a whole lot of fun.   My tip of the hat to Terry Pratchett who is bravely facing the end of his writing career and will be sorely missed by fans of all ages.

By FAR the most interesting "what if?" YA I've read in some time--this author takes a tired premise (amnesia) and turns it on its head while injecting a pretty fantastic mystery aspect. London is a high-schooler whose memory completely resets at night. When she wakes up, there's nothing. She seems to be functioning pretty well...until she meets a guy. Dating gets a lot more complicated when you don't remember anything about Mr. Dreamboat upon waking, it turns out...Forgotten reminds me a little of Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, meets The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

*Strongly Recommended for Ages 16+*I
know this kid. Many of you know the ADD-riddled, crass, BS-ing,
seemingly-insensitive, party-happy, self-absorbed high schooler that is
the Steven Crashinsky. And one of the greatest strengths as an author is
writing Crash as a completely authentic, recognizable character of guys
in high school today AND making the reader care about him. It has a
great hook and a satisfying reveal, and in between there are complex
characters and horrible clueless adults and one truly terrifying
mentally ill kid that brings it all together. At times lighthearted and
funny, and other times raw and all-too-real: this book is a powerhouse.Jill

Have you ever wondered what you would do in a fight? Imogen thinks that with a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, she'd be in complete control--until the day she freezes up during an armed robbery. Deliciously complex and darkly humorous, Bruised is the story of Imogen's struggle to redefine herself after her core beliefs are shattered. Perfect for fans of contemporary novels, martial arts, and kick-butt heroines.

Wit and whimsy collide in Gail Carriger's young adult debut. Adventurous Sophronia isn't interested in being "finished," but that's before she learns that finishing school involves curtsying and throwing knives. At the same time. Throw in a mechanical dog named Bumbersnoot, pirates traveling by dirigible, and a mysterious missing prototype, and you have what is commonly known as a madcap adventure led by a one-of-a-kind heroine. Fans of Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series will recognize this steampunkified Victorian world where werewolves wear top hats and vampires are more foppish than bloodthirsty, and newcomers will fall in love for the first time.

This spooky Deco-era mystery has all the intrigue, glamour, and snappy dialogue as the time in which it's set. A riveting supernatural thrill: think Harry Potter, if he were a flapper just developing her divining abilities. I'm not just being cheeky, she really does face some HP-worthy enemies! A solid gift choice for teens.

Bunheads’ striking cover pulled me into this book. Sophie Flack wrote this mesmerizing story from a first person view of the professional world of American Ballet having danced at the New York City Ballet for nine years. No one from the outside of this world has any idea the total commitment that is required to become a ballerina.  For any young person or adult it is an awe inspiring story of dedication.  As Hannah grows up in the school she begins to wonder if this is all she wants for her life.
