Calling all kindred spirits! Catherine Reid writes about the landscape of Prince Edward Island, and how it shaped Lucy Maud Montgomery and her writing, particularly in Anne of Green Gables. Poetical and delightful!

When his childhood best friend dies in an apparent murder-suicide, Aaron Falk goes back to the hometown he's been avoiding for years because of the murder of a girl that the town suspected him for--and one for which his best friend lied as his alibi. Tense and atmospheric, I immediately reached for the sequel.

The SecUnit who (secretly) refers to itself as "Murderbot" hacked its own governor module, so it could go rogue and kill all the humans if it wanted, but it would rather spend its time watching Sanctuary Moon. Unfortunately, its humans keep getting themselves into danger. Even more unfortunately, Murderbot actually finds itself caring about these humans. It's hard being a heartless killing machine when you have feelings.

If you're a fan of the Netflix shows Orange is the New Black or Manhunt then you'll love this book. Kushner's characters are all related to the justice system, and most of them are on the wrong side of it. But that doesn't make them bad people. This is a gritty portrait of people who are down on their luck

All the best recipes have stories behind them. This is a book of beautifully crafted storytelling, both hilarious and poignant, that will set your mouth watering. A wonderful tribute to those who have filled us and enriched our lives with love and good food. Simultaneously one of the best cookbooks and memoirs I have ever read.

This work of nonfiction reads like a compelling novel where Masha follows the lives of young people just old enough to remember the fall of the USSR. Their stories intertwine with those of their parents and grandparents showing the generational disconnect and the obstacles it presents. Through interviews and impressive research Masha shares the truth behind the iron curtain and what happened after it was rent in two.

Novelist (Going Away) Sigal was a Hollywood talent agent and secret communist in the blacklist-plagued 1950s. An outrageously entertaining, naming-names memoir (with a ration of b.s. too...sweetheart, whaddya expect, he's an agent!), What Makes Sammy Run meets L.A. Confidential. The cover should be a lot more lurid!

This is a "thriller" in that it begins with a death that takes the entire book to unravel, but it is much more literary, philosophical & poetic than I think of a typical thriller to be. It is introspective & thoughtful, told largely through letters, & Harrison's prose is as much a driver of the book's appeal as the plot itself. I found myself getting lost in the language and his philosophical digressions, only to be drawn back to the central mystery and its surprising resolution.
