This book is one for the times! Cixin Liu has a way of making sci-fi really accessible and enjoyable for sci-fi beginners and fans alike. This book really delves into what it would look like if societies invested in our future in a real way. A world where adults have to prepare children what it takes to keep Earth functional and sustainable.

Gilead keeps coming up as beloved in this time of quarantine. Some friends are just discovering it and others re-reading it. If you are finding it hard to read and feeling unsettled, this beautiful book is, well, a balm. Obama loved Robinson's writing so much, he went to Iowa to interview her for the NY Review of Books, and awarded her the National Humanities Medal in 2012. A related book called Jack will be published in September 2020.

Fear not: with this handy (and hilarious) guide, you can completely rebuild civilization from scratch--and even take some shortcuts and avoid some of the missteps of our forebears. This book somehow manages to be a fascinating primer on science history and a witty page-turner. Essential reading for the post-apocalypse.

This is an absolute must for Beatles fans! I’ve read so many books on the “Paul Is Dead” conspiracy that I was hesitant when I saw this coming out, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a fresh twist, rooted in reality, but with plenty of nods to my favorite urban legend. As for the art, I dare you to find a more beautiful graphic novel; each page is a treat!

What It's Like to Be a Bird

This is simply a beautiful book, and truly a work of art. From the wonderful illustrations, many of them roughly life-size, to the fascinating little essays scattered throughout (“Why don’t woodpeckers get concussions?” is only one of many), this book is a pure delight, and one I will treasure for many years.

This is the book I turn to when I need cheering up. Set in a crumbling English castle populated by a quirky and delightful cast of characters, the diary entries of the witty, charismatic, and "consciously naive" Cassandra Mortmain make up a coming of age story so utterly charming that I couldn't stop smiling while reading.
