If you’ve spent any amount of time in Boston, there’s a good chance you’ve visited the Make Way for Ducklings statue in the Common. This book tells the story of how that statue came to be complete with some beautiful illustrations, making it the perfect souvenir for a Boston trip or companion for the original beloved picture book.

Ever since her home was ravaged by a hurricane, high school senior Eliza has found comfort and carthasis in vocalizing her passion for combating climate change in her hometown. However, her world is flipped dangerously and disastrously upside down a second time when a certain tourist named Milo enters her world and leaves a sandy footprint. Surely the volley of her heart can't be attributed to him...? Rich with resonance, Don't Call Me a Hurricane is a whirlpool of a story about love and home and the price of getting stuck in the riptide of feeling.

This is my first Katherine Center book and it's certainly not going to be my last. Center writes with a chaotic, lighthearted, and humorous hand while at the same time not sacrificing the integrity of the storyline. This was a fun read that (1) totally subverted my expectations (2) made Jack Stapleton my new golden standard for fictional men. This is the perfect book for anyone who enjoys the charm of Emily Henry and the humor of Ali Hazelwood!

If you're a lover of destiny, Persian mythology, and two characters yearning for a forbidden love, Tahereh Mafi's This Woven Kingdom is perfect for you! The style is reminiscent of well-loved stories like The Arabian Nights and The Shahnameh. Set among clashing empires, it also parallels the court intrigue that Games of Thrones is known for...

She never sees them, until this year when a boy emerges and speaks to her. His name is Gansey, and he is a student at Aglionby, the local all-boys private school that Blue has a policy of staying away from. Along with three others, Gansey is on an important quest, and Blue finds herself quickly abandoning her policy of staying away from Raven Boys.

This nice paperback would make a great gift for anyone who loves Boston whether they were born and raised here or came later in life.  There is a wide range of viewpoints in these stories and although the book was created in response to the horrific events at the Boston Marathon in April, the pieces do not dwell on that and are truly a celebration of the many things that make Boston such a great city.  My favorite is the poem entitled Patriot's Day by Richard Wilbur.

Read about the accidental and deliberate design decisions that led to the region we know today, and then go see for yourself, using the walking tour suggestions throughout the book.
