just finished reading Teen Titans: Raven, which still felt a little too setup-y but less so than some of the others
Just finished Girl, Interrupted. You know when you’re looking for a book to really touch your soul, something to make you feel really seen and understood- this was that. I feel like a really deep itch has been scratched and have no idea how I haven’t read this before. Felt like It’s Kind of a Funny Story meets The Bell Jar and I loved every line
I finished listening to Malice and I'm still deciding how I feel about it. I could NOT put it down but also it was a little more Disney inspired than I liked. IDK. It was a whole lot of fun at least!
back on the Tana French, which I've been craving
Stayed up til 12am last night for the first time in years reading The Cousins. It was def a page-turner for me, but I don't know why one of the main characters was half Japanese. It seemed like diversity bait to me--the author mentioned it twice maybe, but the book would've been the EXACT same without. And the character's parents are divorced and her Japanese dad is barely in the book.....I bet the editor was like "hey, you should put a poc in here to make this more diverse because EVERYONE else in this book is white." But I still read it and enjoyed it. And that character happened to be my favorite character anyways and it wasn't because she was apparently half-Japanese.
Currently reading Heart-Break Bakery because my roommate got a galley and was kind enough to let me read it first as I needed something fun.
Just read another Hill house comic which leaves me with one left, Plunge, kind of putting off that one as I don't want it to end. Though, Daphne Bryne i actually wasn't a big fan of- the story line and characters felt a little weak and there were some questionable suggestively incestuous?? relationships. I really thought I'd love this one, the themes are right up my alley but ehhh
And because I don't believe in gender or linear time, I'm giving my dad Thinking Inside the Box for Mother's Day because I'm listening to the audiobook right now and it's his fault I'm currently crossword obsessed so he can join me in this hell!!
I'm giving my mom World of Wonders for Mother's Day and trying to finish reading it first myself. WOW it's gorgeous
I think I forgot to mention that I read the human skin book book. (well listened to the audiobook). Macabre, obviously, but I thought it was fascinating
And in a bit of a galley brag, one of the books I plan to start on vacation is the new Maggie Nelson
Foucault in Warsaw. Less about Foucault's philosophy and more about state surveillance and the idea of minor characters in the story of history
Also caught up on some Batman and had mixed feelings about it. Mostly liked it! Could have used more Nightwing, but at least Harley and Ivy are finally official
Listened to Phoenix Extravant. It was pretty good! I don’t see myself staff picking it or anything but it’ll probably be a solid stable for queer bundles
